Potassium Acetate, Crystal, Reagent, ACS is used in molecular biology to precipitate dodecyl sulfate (DS) and DS-bound proteins, allowing the removal of proteins from DNA. It is also used as a salt for the ethanol precipitation of DNA. Potassium acetate is also used in mixtures applied for tissue preservation, fixation, and mummification. As an ACS grade quality reagent, its chemical specifications are the de facto standards for chemicals used in many high-purity applications and typically designate the highest quality chemical available for laboratory use.
